Aftercare Instructions for the Nipple Renew Procedure

Tattooing, when done properly, is nothing more than a precision surface abrasion.  The degree of injury to the skin is far less than many common skin wounds, such as a cat scratch or a skinned knee. Immediately after the procedure, it is normal for your new nipple / areola area will be redder than the healed work will appear. This is because your skin is irritated, During the healing process, the color will fade to the pigment color that was chosen.

Before you leave the studio, a little A&D ointment will be applied to the area and you will be bandaged with a sterile telfa pad. Please leave this bandage on for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 24 hours. This gives the area a chance to seal up and become more bacteria resistant before it is exposed to the outside environment. When you remove the bandage, please gently wash the area, rinse quickly and gently pat dry.  Next apply a very tiny amount of unscented lotion (I am a big fan of Aveeno Daily moisturizing lotion). If you have a moisturizer at home already, make sure it is not in a container that your fingers dip in. That way you can be sure that you eliminate the chance of using something with a bacterial build up. I would suggest using a pump bottle.  When applying the lotion USE ONLY A TINY PEA SIZED DROP OF LOTION AT A TIME.  Over moisturizing on newly tattooed skin can actually soak some of the pigment right out of your skin. which is not our intended outcome. Moisturize twice a day with very clean fingersKeep the tattooed area soothed and flexible, not wet.  It is okay to take a shower but do not let the shower spray hit the area.  You want to stay away from soaking in a bath or being submerged in water for at least 3 weeks.  Remember to be gentle with yourself and just pat dry the area.  Stay away from swimming and hot tubs for at least 3 weeks  as those could lead to a serious bacterial infection.

As your nipple / areolas heal, your skin will feel textured and start slightly peeling (like a sunburn). It will look like dry skin or even a case of dandruff.  It may be colored, do not be alarmed, this is a natural part of the healing process.  You might be tempted but do not help the peeling. Let it happen naturally.  Continue to gently moisturize and keep the area clean.
